Team Teagan Update | 5-4

Hello Team Teagan

Teagan in Disguise“Unstoppable”, that’s our little Teagan, who’s been home for a week now and enjoyed what has basically been a very quiet and uneventful time. Well, lets rephrase the “quiet” part… she’s not exactly quiet anymore, seems to be taking lessons from big brother Tanner, and blabbering all the time, usually until we place her in the crib with her dollies and books hoping she’ll fall asleep so we can turn down the TV so our neighbors don’t have to hear our programming… But, we enjoy watching her and are thankful she’s here.

ImageThe week has seemed almost normal for me, giving me a chance to catch up on work - except around the house where the projects seem to have taken minor role in our lives… although, I might want to fix the shower curtain rod in the boys bathroom which mysteriously ended up on the floor… still scratching my head on how that happened… nah, not gonna worry about it… just gonna fix it. – Tomorrow – maybe! Maybe the Lawn Fairy will come and rake all the dead grass away… Probably not, but you can wish.

Today, Holly and Teagan will make what will hopefully be a short and routine visit to AMC, to have a bone marrow biopsy done from her hip and have a chemo injection into her spine… Obviously there are much more technical words to describe this procedure, but I have enough trouble speaking English let alone Latin. Hopefully she’ll have her procedure and be back home late this afternoon, because she’s looking forward to a much welcome visit from her Godmother, Tanja (my Sister)...

Teagan has had a busy week too. Visiting and entertaining her “Therapy” friends, who have taken this opportunity to make sure Teags has not fallen behind on her progress and development… she’s really doing great. And by looking at her, besides the obvious scars on her chest, neck and shoulder, you’d never guess she has cancer. Especially since she (God only knows why) still has all her hair, for which even the Doctors don’t have an explanation, but we’re certainly not complaining.

If you’ve had the opportunity to see her lately, you may have noticed Teagan spreading the word about her battle with cancer as she proudly wears her new “Cancer Sucks” button (I know, I know, we try hard not to get our kids to use such language too, but simply said… Cancer does Suck!). So, we’ve been giving them to all our friends as we see them… If you would like one too, just ask us, and we’d be happy to give you one the next time we see you… just be aware, you may get strange looks and stares from people who wonder why you’re wearing it… You’d be surprised how many people will tell you touching stories about their own battles or those of a love one… It’s amazing!

As I sit her looking over into the living room, I see Teagan sitting on the couch watching her usual morning dose of Elmo on TV, I’m truly blessed to have such a strong, resilient and bubbly little girl, it’s fun watching her talk back to the characters and mimic the actions on the screen… only to think how close this cancer has taken us to the edge… it’s these moments that keep me sane and strong enough to fight this battle… Guess its Gods way of teaching us to slow down and enjoy the moments, but some of us just need more drastic reminders… I’m listening, Are You? Enjoy your Day!

Be Well,

Juergen, Holly and Kids
