Team Teagan Update | 4-26

Hello Team Teagan,

“Close to Home” - Unfortunately that’s not a geographic reference. It was sad and somber on D7 North today, as the doctors, nurses and parents tried hard to hold back emotions and tears as word spread like wildfire that little Ryan lost his brave battle with cancer. We can only hope that his parents, grandparents and sisters have the strength they need to make it through this very difficult time.

Throughout my 45 minute ride home tonight, I had tears freely rolling down my cheek as I tried to imagine how Ryan’s father had done everything in his might for these last 9 months – half the lifetime of his precious son - to keep his family strong, positive and probably filled with hope right up to the last minute.

If you do nothing else today, take a minute and hug your children, hold them tight and them and tell them how much you love them. After you do that, take 30 seconds and look to the heavens and thank God that you had this opportunity, because you can’t imagine what a precious gift you were just given. A gift Ryan’s father will never again have. A fate no father or mother should ever have to experience, the death of their child. My deepest thoughts and prayers are with him and the rest of his family and to the family of 3 year old Zack who lost his battle just a week earlier. Please extend just one moment of your thoughts and prayers to these families who need every ounce of strength today.

Holly and Teagan are going onto day 46 at Hotel AMC, the days are getting longer, the nights are filled with interruptions and discomfort, the ride home for me is getting almost robotic as I as I think about our future and how the boys are beginning to show some signs of separation anxiety from our family being spilt, but atleast I could go home today and watch then sleep and whisper to them that I loved them. On a positive note, Teagans numbers showed a slight upward movement today – which hopefully means she’ll be able to come home soon. They were once again moved to another room (D729 / 262-0321) to make space for some other poor family who will hopefully have a short stay at Albany Med.

It’s incredibly difficult to cope, but hopefully our days will be filled with more positive experiences and we won’t be witnesses to many more days like today, as we are forced to remain patrons of AMC for the next 10 months. You can’t help but become friends to these families, feel their pain and pray daily that neither of you have to experience a fate like little Ryan’s family. God Bless You! May he rest in Peace!

Now go hug your children!

Juergen, Holly and Kids.
