Team Teagan Update | Mar 4th 2007

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to give a quick update and a BIG THANK YOU for all your support, prayers, food, visits, phone calls, cards, gifts...everything. Juergen and I are truly touched by all the love and support we have received during these difficult weeks. We really appreciate everyone's help so very much.

Teagan is a true trooper. She has been through her first round of chemotherapy - resulting in a few really rough days of vomiting and diarrhea, 2 blood transfusions, an infection and a Blown central line. Through it all she has been tough and strong. She is very weak and pale, but made it home last night. (Yeah!!) It was a joy to see her face light up when she saw her big brothers. Our family was complete again. The boys have also been strong and helpful. We are so proud of them as well.

The road ahead is a long one, but we know we WILL WIN this battle. Teagan will have to go to Albany Med twice a week for blood work and every other week for a bone marrow biopsy. She will be in the hospital for more chemo for one week each month for 8-10 months. It is also common to have hospital admissions for fevers and infections in between the chemo. Please continue to join our prayers for our dear daughter.

I will try to keep everyone posted as best as possible. Again, I apologize for the "mass" e-mail, but I hope you all understand that we are running on empty and this is best way to get the information out to everyone.

Thank you again for everything - dear friends and family. We love you and feel so grateful to have so much support.

Love, Holly

Dear Friends and Family,

This is a quick update about Teagan. It has been a VERY busy last few days, as many of you know, Teagan was readmitted to Albany Med last Monday with a fever. During the week they were able to get her infection under control with a cocktail of anti-biotics. On Friday, she was scheduled for surgery to replace her central line which ruptured the previous week, and was in good sprits up until Friday. Preparing for surgery, Teagan turned into a little beggar as she asked everyone who came near her for her BaBah – That’s Teagan speak for Bottle. Since no one (who came to see her) was willing to help her out, she started to wave to any stranger, nurse or doctors who passed by her window using both verbal requests and sign language asking again for her Babah.

Team Teagan,

WE HAVE POOP!!! That was the message I received a few minutes ago from Holly, although this may not be as exciting to many (or most) of you, it is a huge accomplishment for Teagan. Since her surgery on Friday, her bowels have been locked up, causing her tremendous discomfort. Shortly after she awoke this morning, she stood in the crib and grunted for what seemed like an hour. This also means that the surgeons will now consider removing her chest tube… She’s looking much better, considering! She gets very tired, but won’t sleep, very restless. But she is making progress…

ImageHello Team Teagan,

We're on the move! That is the latest from AMC. After much "discussion" in the huddle (that's what we call it when Teagans Dr.'s all stand around in the hallway outside her room discussing our future), Teagan was moved this morning out of the PICU and back into the D-Wing... to Room D723. Although we don't plan on staying there very long.

Hello Team Teagan,

Image"HELD OVER FOR ONE MORE DAY"... Because her overwhelming popularity at the AMC Children's Hospital, they have asked Teagan to perform for one more day (or maybe it's ME they want to have hang around??? Nah doubt it!). It seems the nurses and Staff just can't seem to get enough, so they will just come up with almost any excuse why she needs to stay a bit longer. Just so we don't cause a riot, work stoppage or general uprising in the "Peds" wing at AMC, we have agreed and plan to bring her home on Tuesday.
