Kristen Shinebarger | 2011 Honored Hero
Kristen Shinebarger is a typical 9 year old that is full of live. She loves taking dance clases and playing outside with her 12 year old brother Eric. She loves animals and has both a dog and cat that she takes care of. Kristen is a Borwnie Scout and enjoys school. Her favorite subjects are gym, art and music. She has much spirit or moxie and her teachers at school often comment on her enthusiasm and contagious smile. Life was easy and carefree for Kristen until November 2010 when she was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma. She has completed 8 chemotherapy sessions and has had surgery to remove the tumor on her tibia. She has had to stop many of the activities she enjoys so much yet focuses on getting healthy and getting her life back. The family remains as active as possible with long walks each day that she is not in the hospital.
The family is overwhelmed by the generous support from the community and is not sure how we will ever repay everyone. We are detemined to win this battle and realize it would not be possible without the wonderful support and encouragement from the community.
